Website Colour Scheme (HEX Colour Codes)

Unfortunately not much attention is paid to website colour schemes during the website planning stage, and yet it is such an integral part to the sites design. How many times have you seen a site with a dark blue background and black scripted font? Ouch!, I am sure you cringe. What do you think your next move is? Yes, you either click back to the previous screen or close the browser or better yet grab your designer sunglasses.

Plan the colour scheme that will fit your website theme, visit other sites in your industry and observe how they have used colours on their site, once there, ask yourself how you feel about the site; is it attractive, fresh, pleasant, overbearing, dull, what would improve the site, what changes would you make if it were your site and so on. If you have no concept or clue about colour schemes then take help from the colour wheel provided here.

It is generally a good idea to keep a website to about 3 colours, and these colours should "work" together. Keep a simple  colour selection. Your site may have great content, but poor colour scheme will chase them away. On the other hand, a site with pleasant layout and great colour scheme can hold the attention span of a visitor for a few extra seconds even if content is a bit weak. In this game it is all about attention span. I firmly believe Content is KING, but the rest (layout, navigation & colour) play a very  important part.

Get feedback from family, friends and other webmasters. I always involve my family in the web design, layout and colour, especially my daughters. They give me good feedback, and since they are hip with the modern feel, they feed me with the "NOW" look.
