Certain fundamental steps need to be followed and completed before you can create,build, or make a website. A website in it's most basic definition is a document, an electronic one. This document or website resides in a specific location (IP address) and can be accessed by others to view and read via a web browser. To Create a Website and have web presence for your business, products, service, a sports club or a simple information site etc, there are four important steps that you will need to execute to get you there:
- Type Of Website: It is good to understand what kind of site we intend to create or build. Will it be an information site, an e-commerce site, a blog, a forum site, a site where customers or clients would download information, songs, music etc. Knowing the site we plan to create, will allow us to make smart decisions when taking the next few steps; especially when deciding on our Web Host.
- Select Your Web Host: An important part in building a website, since you will have many options and hosting providers to choose from. One very important observation here; stay away from free hosting if you are interested in building a good functional website (more explanation in the host selection segment).
- Designing and Building Your Site: This step depends a lot on the knowledge you already possess. There are many ways to tackle this part of website building process. In the next few weeks we will tackle the various options that one has to creating or making a website. Your solutions to making a website are several and the choice you make will depend entirely on you, your current knowledge, your willingness to learn and and the time you want to spend designing your website.
The above steps are necessary to create a website and get it live on the web. So just because you have a website does not mean the world will be cramming to view it it; at first you, your family and perhaps a few of your loyal friends may visit it a few times, but soon you will realize that your traffic has not improved and you are the sole visitor.
Here are the next few steps you need to work on to increase your ranking and improve traffic to your site.
- Submitting Your Website: This step requires you to submit your site to the various search engines and get indexed by them. You may have read or been told by friends and associates that you need to register to thousands of search engines and directories. This is far from the truth, you only need to submit your site to a handful of meaningful search engines and your information will filter to the others. So don't waste your money paying someone $19.99 or $29.99 or even $1.99 with promises that they will submit your site to 7000 search engines and directories.
- Promoting Your Website: This part will be an ongoing effort for as long as you have a site that is meaningful. You have to find different ways and ideas to continually promote and increase your web presence. Over time if you have done the right things your site will increase in popularity but it will not do so if you or your site is stagnant in effort or content.
