One-Way Links

One-Way linking is the most effective and powerful method of linking. One-Way link is when another website or webpage links to your site or webpage with no reciprocating link going out from your site. So they point to you and you are not pointing out to them. One Way Linking becomes even more potent if it is embedded within the content of your website, rather then just sitting there on the sidebar or on a "links" or "resource" page.

This one way linking format speaks volumes to the search engine. It indicates that the content on your site is valuable enough that other site owners want to share it with their own visitors and users. (Of course you must remember that there should still be content relevancy between sites to add value, otherwise the link looks unnatural to the search engines and either carries little or no value.)

One Way Linking

Natural One-Way links give your site credibility and value, again they have to be coming from other credible sites. Links pointing to your site from link farms, poker or such poor sites are not good for your sites reputation.

Why would another site link to yours? One of the main reasons is that your site content is so powerful and of incredible valuable that the site owner feels his/her visitor will benefit from the link. It may also be a case of where the site owner feels the information on your site is an extension to theirs and compliments their own site.

For instance; learnweb101 is a site full of useful information, but it cannot possibly cover all the material. In certain articles I have linked out to other valuable sites that would be useful for my readers if they require further detail. For example, I do not teach HTML on this site (because there are others that do a much better job of it), and as such I have indicated those sites to my viewership if they wish to learn it in greater detail.

One Way Links are exteremly powerful and valuable to your site's SERP.

  • Start a blog and ensure it is submitted to blog directories.
  • Provide free give-a-ways such as; e-books and ensure your links are on all the pages of the book.

  • Join local government municipality sites where you are allowed to post your companies or sites profile.
  • Submit your site to directories within your industry.
  • Design downloadable software that are useful for users and have a link to your site in them.
  • All your articles, newsletters, e-books, softwares can be submitted to other directories such as ezinearticles.com, download.com etc.
  • Every time you visit a site, blog, forum etc. Leave a signature that provides a link back to your site.
  • Give away free web templates which has a link to your site on the webpages footer.
  • Create videos and upload them to sites like you-tube.
  • Have some useful tools on your site that others could use frequently (eg; create a websites site map). Then request your users to link back to you if they found the service beneficial by providing them a cut & paste HTML code of the link information. This can even help bring in more visitors to your site.
  • Just have a simple link back to you page where users can cut and paste your HTML link back code. You will be surprised at how many well meaning visitors would do this if they found your information of value.
  • Contribute to online magazines and newspapers with articles and comments and create a link back. These sites get visited by search robots very frequently due to their every changing and dynamic content. So leave your signature (link) on these sites.

Paid One-Way Links that are created just for the purposes of link building are frowned upon by search engines. Websites that charge for creating these links are not looked at favourably by search engines either.

Building links is a gradual process. Quality Links always better then Quantity. In other words work on having few high end quality one way links then a hundred reciprocal links.
