Creating & Building Your Website | |
As the old saying goes; "There is More then One Way to Skin a Cat"; the same is true for Website Creating, Building, Making or Designing.
You have many different ways to create and build your web page or website. Listed below find the various options; using any one of these will allow you to put together a pretty decent website.
Some methods are a lot easier then others and I myself having gone through all the different variations have finally arrived at using this one software that makes it easy to create my websites. The same software was used to create this very site.
A lot depends on what suits your fancy, the time you have, your interest level, the kind of site you wish to build and so on. I have presented the options for you, you make the choice that works for you.
Please note:
Although this website is not designed to teach you HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) which is the language that allows you to build a structured electronic documents (web page) that displays images, paragraphs, links, quotes etc. I encourage and promote you learn some basic HTML since it will help you understand how websites are built, designed and work. It will enable you to make minor modifications to your existing sites, be useful in understanding SEO and grasp internet lingo in general when you read articles or visit forums and useful chat rooms.
If you wish learn HTML in detail (which is great) then you have choices of signing up with local night school, or visit other online internet tutorial sites that focus on HTML and other such languages in great detail. Some of these useful sites are;

On this site, we will touch on fundamental HTML coding when the need arises. I will present different options on how to get a web presence with minimal HTML knowledge. I am no HTML expert (I know enough to get by), and I don't believe I need to be, to achieve my goals. You too can build a website without being an HTML guru, but a little knowledge will help.
Earlier I mentioned not having to learn complex coding to build a website, but let me be honest you will need to read, learn, understand and excute fundamental stuff whilst building your site. It will not happen magically without effort, it did not happen for me and it wont for you. There is basic knowledge that you must gain in order to appreciate what it takes to build a website.
So here are your various options;
Have someone do it for you:
The easiest way is to have a designing company or a web master create a site for you. Pay them enough money and they will do all the work; register a domain, buy hosting, make the website etc. If you want they can even supply you with images and write the content for your site, including make it SEO friendly.
I don't have that kind of money, besides I love to learn and enjoy the challenge. For those who fall in my category and have shallow and empty pockets, read on for other options.
If you decide to get professional help I highly recommend the use of Rent-A-Coder; a very reliable and ethical company that has access to hundreds of computer specialists who can help with designing a simple logo to building the most sophisticated e-commerce website for you, and all at a very competitive price.
They have a very simple approach, you list your project on their site, hundreds of their professionals have a chance to view and bid on the project. You make the final decision on who gets to complete it. You are not obligated to commit, if you are not happy with any of the bids you may elect to opt out with no consequence. If you like a coder or a bid, you can proceed to the next stage of developing your project. History and background on every coder is available for you to check. They track every project and protect the interests of both you the client and the freelance programmer. This is one solid company, I like the way they do business on the net.
Of course you always have a choice of selecting someone local that you know or are recommended. Just make sure you have everything in writing including price and exactly what is to be accomplished, that will avoid any heartaches and misunderstandings. Do not agree on things verbally.
This selection will not only cost you initially but also later on as you make changes or modify your site. My suggestion is to at least learn to modify your own content (which may be required on fairly regular basis). Webmasters in general enjoy being creative but do not like the tedious task of adding, modifying or updating mere content to a website. So you will find a poor response rate from your site designer when it comes to content update. So change the content yourself and save yourself a lot of grief, heartache and money. Remember; a stagnant website is not good for your customers, reputation or your ranking.
Using your Host Site Templates to Build your Website:
Many hosting companies have ready made website templates which make it possible for you to have a web presence overnight. All you do is purchase a monthly plan; includes hosting and the use of hundreds of their web templates.
At the host site you have the ability to modify and add your own content to the template (including images, logo etc) and you are on the net, just like that. The variety of templates are vast and are designed for all sorts of business and industries, (you can view them before buying into any plan).
I used this method to have my very first web presence. It was absolutely fantastic as I had no knowledge on designing or uploading websites via FTP. I thought FTP was For The People (just kidding).
With this option there is no need for any software, you require just content to place in the template. The drawback to this is that the content resides on the host site; so if you were to move hosting companies then you would have to re-enter all that information again. A suggestion would be to keep a copy of your site content on your hard drive as well; even if it is only in a word document format. Remember; Content Is King. It is not the graphical display of your content that is important it is the quality that counts. So as long as you have a copy of it on your system, you are safe.
As a first timer or if you are a newbie to the web and need a website pronto, then this is definitely the fastest, cheapest, easiest and safest way to go. I highly recommend this format. I was able to get my first site live overnight (and at that time I had very limited knowledge); registered my domain, purchased the website template plan and the next morning I was up and running with an active website on the net. It felt really good, I probably visited it at least a hundred times that day.
